KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Mar 31: The state government spent Rs 506.72 Cr on the salaries of PSOs, Guard Nafri attached with 1472 political activists as their security cover and fuel and hotel accommodation in the last five years between 2010 and 2015.
This was stated in a reply by the Minister in charge Home department in response to a question by BJP MLA Rajesh Gupta in the Legislative Assembly here today.
"As on date a total number of 1472 political activists have been provided security cover by the security wing of J&K police. 708 vehicles were provided by the security wing to 481 political protected persons in the state. 440 political activists were extended secure hotel accommodation to ensure their security in the last five years," the House was informed.
In Jammu division a total number of 294 political activists were extended the security cover while 490 political activists from different districts of Kashmir were extended the security cover. From two districts of Leh and Kargil only 19 people were given security cover.
In un-categorised category a total number of 669 political activists were also extended security cover by the state government.
In addition Rs 958.67 lakhs were spent by the estate department on accommodation including ministerial bungalows during the last five years. The House was informed the records of Deputy Director, Estates Srinagar/executive engineer Estate Div, Srinagar for last five years 2010-11 to 2014-15 washed away in the flash floods.
