SRINAGAR, Apr 29: Delhi should handover its control over overwhelming water resources generating power back to Kashmiris and also compensate for Kashmir's surface link being used for trade between India and Pakistan by means of a Transit permit.
The chairman of Islamic Students League (ISL), Shakeel Bakshi said this at Zaldagar on occasion of 143 death anniversary of "Shawlbaaf" martyrs.
A press note issued said that a huge 87 percent of power dues were being grabbed by Delhi and this would push the coming generations to bankruptcy. And the jobless educated youth having no means of employment in a badly affected private sector in valley have to beg for government jobs.
The chairman alleged that it was in violation of UN trusteeship that the government spent 25 years in completing a small scale power house and also raised its budget from initial Rs 200 crore to whopping Rs 5000 crore only to lighten outside state cities. In stead, valley people groping in darkness are made to pay hefty taxes in the name of power as NHPC (companies based in Delhi) were robbing the profits.
